STD/HIV Prevention Curriculum

Objectives

1- Students will recognize the symptoms of each Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD).
2- Students will understand what type of organism causes each STD.
3- Students will know the treatment, if possible, for each STD.
4- Students will understand different strategies for avoiding STDs.
5- Students will recognize that Abstinence is the best way to avoid STDs.

Standards

STD/HIV prevention unit based on the KNOW curriculum adopted by the White River School District. This curriculum is designed to meet the requirements of the AIDS Omnibus Act (RCW 28A.230.070) and requirements for instruction about sexually transmitted diseases (RCW 28a.230.020). This unit includes information about certain diseases and on avoiding risk behaviors.

Organization

1- Use the link "Start Here" to find out what students prior knowledge is.
2- Allow time for student to explore the information pages on "STDs/HIV". Time for this will vary based on the students prior knowledge and computer skills.
3- Take the "Self Quiz" to determine if the student is prepared to move on.
4- Explore the "Prevention" page and "Abstinence" page.
5- Finish the unit with the "Final Test".
6- Use the "Survey" at any time, maybe many times throughout the unit. It is a useful tool for students who may have further or embarrassing questions.
