1- Character It requires a lot of confidence and maturity to resist the pressure to have sex. Self-confidence increases if you stick to your decision to not have sex. Remaining true to yourself and to your personal values shows self confidence and strength. Choosing to become abstinent again after having been sexually active is a decision that is always available to you. 2- Relationships Abstinence can be a positive thing for a relationship. Building a relationship with a partner based on caring, shared interests, and trust creates a stronger relationship than one based on physical satisfaction. 3- STDs and AIDS Abstinence is the best way to prevent STDS, HIV, AIDS, and unplanned pregnancies. Yes, there are other ways to get some of these things, but the risk is minimal if you are not sexually active. 4- Freedom As a teen you have a lot on your mind. These things may include school, sports, friends, family, and many other things. By remaining abstinent, you are free of the health risks associated with sex, or an unplanned pregnancy. You can then focus your energy on enjoying the rest of your life. 5- Love Contrary to what you may think, waiting to share sexual intercourse with someone that you truly love in a lifetime relationship, can lead to a stronger feelings of love. Many people are hurt by sex because they did not have a true love relationship to begin with. Some people who use sex to find love, are disappointed to find that they are not really in a loving relationship.
